Symptoms
Your device is running slower than normal. Applications will not open in the same amount of time as usual. Your device recently went through an update of any kind. It has been some time since your device has last powered down. Your device is stuck/ frozen and is inoperable.
Resolution
The first method- From your desktop, click on your start menu. Once open, select your power settings, then shut down. This will go through a normal powering-off cycle.
The second method- Remove your device from the charging cord. Press and hold your power button for 30 seconds. To know if your device is fully off you will hear the device fan stop moving and the screen's backlight will go out. wait for 5 seconds and power the device back on. Once the manufacturer's logo appears you can plug the charger back in. This is the traditional method of a power cycle.
Note: It is key that you remove your charger when resetting. If you do not, the device may be in a limbo state preserving data and anticipating it turning back on. Thus, keeping the same settings.
Cause
Our devices these days are always trying to optimize our workflow. They have an optimization schedule built-in to follow your uptime (when you use the device), what applications are used, and many other things. When our device goes through any system changes (recent updates/ installed programs), no off time ( fully off, not a shut lid), or high-performance work causes a collection with the device's optimization function. Going through a power cycling can refresh the device's operating system to optimize your workflow again.
